The Outstanding Artist
In 2025, I stepped into an experience that pushed me far beyond my comfort zone.
I was selected as one of twelve international artists to compete in Season 4 of The Outstanding Artist, an intense creative competition produced by the Milan Art Institute.
On screen, it may look like a painting competition.
In reality, it is much more than that.
It is pressure.
It is doubt.
It is focus under a ticking clock.
It is continuing to create while cameras capture every decision.
On this page, I share more about what happened behind the scenes. Not only the challenges inside the studio, but also what this experience revealed in me as an artist. The tension. The lessons. The inner shifts that do not always make it into an episode.

Opdracht: Paint your legacy
‘She Carried Gold From the Dark’
Jarenlang geloofde ik dat ik mijn plek moest verdienen. Ik was voortdurend op zoek naar bevestiging, ervan overtuigd dat beter worden er uiteindelijk voor zou zorgen dat ik goed genoeg zou zijn. Deelnemen aan The Outstanding Artist bracht die oude overtuigingen weer naar de oppervlakte.
Perfectionisme.
Zelftwijfel.
Het gevoel dat ik nog steeds iets te bewijzen had.
De finale uitdaging werd een uitnodiging om naar binnen te keren, in plaats van goedkeuring van buitenaf te zoeken. Verborgen in het schilderij bevindt zich een gedicht dat spreekt over deze reis.
