A monarch butterfly briefly landing on an aster, wings open in the light. I drew it in soft pastel on dark paper, so that the orange and turquoise enhance each other and the butterfly almost leaps off the page.
Butterflies are a recurring theme in my work. They represent change and those brief moments when you stop and truly look. Small and light enough for a spot you walk past every day.

Details
Soft pastel is pure pigment with a velvety, luminous surface. I don't use fixative or varnish, as it dulls the colour and texture; the textured pastel paper holds the pigment in place. The surface therefore remains sensitive to touch, and a small amount of pigment may loosen over time. That is part of the medium and what makes an original pastel so special. Supplied unframed.

Framing
Always have a pastel framed behind glass, with a mat or spacers so the glass does not touch the artwork. UV-protective glass is recommended; it keeps the colours as they are for years to come. Any framer will know how to do this; just mention it is an unvarnished pastel. Keep the work out of direct sunlight.

I ship the work flat, between acid-free paper and rigid board, in protective packaging with tracking. Usually delivered within 4 working days in the Netherlands, and on average within 7 working days elsewhere.
