Lavender Hour, Assisi
Drawn during the lavender festival near Assisi, Italy, where the fields are in full bloom in early summer and the scent reaches you before you see them. I didn't want to capture the field itself, but what it felt like to stand in it: rows of purple running towards the hills, warm light, and nothing else that needed doing.
Travel is my greatest source of inspiration, and this is one of those moments that came home with me. Small enough to give a piece of Umbria a permanent place.

Details
Soft pastel is pure pigment with a velvety, luminous surface. I don't use fixative or varnish, as it dulls the colour and texture; the textured pastel paper holds the pigment in place. The surface therefore remains sensitive to touch, and a small amount of pigment may loosen over time. That is part of the medium and what makes an original pastel so special. Supplied unframed.

Framing
Always have a pastel framed behind glass, with a mat or spacers so the glass does not touch the artwork. UV-protective glass is recommended; it keeps the colours as they are for years to come. Any framer will know how to do this; just mention it is an unvarnished pastel. Keep the work out of direct sunlight.

I ship the work flat, between acid-free paper and rigid board, in protective packaging with tracking. Usually delivered within 4 working days in the Netherlands, and on average within 7 working days elsewhere.
